Former Speaker of Parliament and former Dhiggaru Constituency MP Ahmed Nazim has filed suit in Civil Court to recover US$ 35,000, leased as a loan.
The case was filed against Chairperson of Transport Authority Abdu Rasheed Nafiz, who was the recipient of the loan.
The former MP, now serving a life sentence, had filed the suit in absentia. The case was filed in Civil Court after out of court settlement discussions had failed to yield results. No hearings had been held on the case. During the discussions, Nafiz had denied having received the loan amount. Nazim's representation had argued that they had documented proof that Nafiz had received the cheque.
Nazim, currently released to complete medical treatment in Singapore, had departed to UK. Corrections Department had begun search operations for him.
