Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar has said the Government will assistance will be given to those families hardest hit by the current raise.
Speaking to Avas, Minister Adam Shareef today said the Government will provide assistance following the assessments carried out by Disaster Management Center. The Center is currently conducting an assessment in Th. Thimarafushi.
Forty two individuals from 15 families in Th. Thimarafushi were the hardest hit due to the rains.
Center's Media Coordinator Hisaan Hassan today said they had received distress messages from over 12 islands, including Thimarafushi.
Hisaan said some of the homes had been damaged beyond repair, and 15 families from Thimarafushi have been relocated to temporary housing. One family from the island is under Council care.
Hisaan added that a task force of the Center is now working with the Council to enact emergency measures to prevent further damages to homes. The Center said they were closely monitoring the situation in other islands with the assistance of the Council, especially the areas under yellow alert.
