President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom tonight will inaugurate the construction phase of the new terminal of Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA).
A large tent has been erected in the proposed construction site; it is expected that tonight's ceremony will be held there.
The INIA redesign is expected to cost around MVR 800 million. The project, to be completed in 2018, is contracted to China's Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG). A runway, measuring 3400 meters long and 65 meters wide will be created as part of the project.
As part of the development, 13 buildings of INIA have been transferred to the east side of the airport. This part of the project was managed by MTCC.
