Zahir Naseer passes away

State dignitary Zahir Naseer has passed away. Zahir Naseer of M. Fenfiyaazuge, was pronounced dead on arrival at IGMH early this morning on emergency.

At the time of death, Zahir Naseer was 87 years old.

Zahir Naseer was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award just this month, in recognition for the services he had rendered over the years to sports and journalism. He was also the longest serving President of the Maldives Olympic Committee and was known as a "father" of the sporting field in the country. Over the years he had held various positions in the state.

He was the editor of the first English language newspaper, Morning Sun. He was also the first person to release a sports newspaper as well.

His career in Journalism began while he was in Sri Lanka, as a contributor to the various publications of the country.
