Conference on Islamic Sharia to take place

Chief Justice Honourable Abdullah Saeed has put forward an idea to hold a conference regarding implementing Islamic Sharia into the constitution, in Maldives.

While having a discussion with the Islamic Affairs Minister Dr. Ahmed Ziyadh, the Chief Justice put forward the idea to hold a conference with other Islamic countries under the name of Islamic Legislation in the Affairs of State and Judicial Power.

According to Chief Justicechief Justice Abdullah Saeed, the aim of the conference is to learn the techniques that other Islamic countries use while dealing with contemporary issues. Furthermore, Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed said that it would be beneficial to learn how Islamic Sharia could be applied and used in the modern world, and to find out how other countries practice Islamic Sharia without going to the extreme.

Adding to the aim of the conference, Abdullah Saeed said that conferring with countries such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Kuwait, Qatar and other countries who have codified the Islamic Sharia to their constitution was important and potentially beneficial as well.

Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed said that the conference would be held by a joint coalition between the Islamic Ministry and the Supreme court.
