Avas now Facebook verified!

Avas Online has become the first Maldivian media to be verified by Facebook. A month back we had been verified by twitter as well.

The verification status was granted late last night. Facebook policies on verification is carried out over a long review and strict screening process and submission of official documents. Avas has been in the process of verification for months now and had provided all necessary information and documentation.

Avas Creative Editor, Mohamed Afzal Amir (Apo), the powerhouse behind the initiative, said that this was the first time a local media had been given the verified status. He said this was a clear indication of the progress Avas had achieved over the short period in operation. Due to this, Afzal said Avas will be able to access Facebook services easier than before.

"I want to thank Facebook on behalf of the whole Avas team, this will bring in many benefits," he said.

Only few local companies had been verified by Facebook, including Ooredoo and Dhiraagu.

Avas CEO Ibrahim Umar Manik, currently out of town, said that Avas had always sought to push forward on new media. He added that the verification was a testament to the achievements made possible by the hard work of the whole team .

"I have no doubts about the team at Avas and their work. With Avas and this team we will be bringing in more achievements," he said.

Avas is now the second most popular online newspaper. Avas has been in operation for just over a year.
