Criminal Court Judge Abdul Baaree Yoosuf has ordered the state to summon material witnesses in the case filed against former VP Ahmed Adeeb. He said if the witnesses are residing abroad the state must summon them, even if it requires sending a flight to bring them back to the country.
Speaking in today's hearing of the case held in Criminal Court over the explosion aboard the Finifenmaa launch, the state lawyers had said a witness could not be summoned to Court as he was aboard. Judge Baaree said the cases had to be expedited through the Court, adding that witnesses needed to be summoned even if it means chartering a flight to bring them back. The Judge had questioned if the state had the means to carry out such a process.
The lawyer said he would clarify on the issue and inform the Court. In today's hearing, an MNDF officer, trained in explosives, had given testimony against Adeeb, stating that he had prepared an IED on Adeeb's request.
