National team coach Herbert dismissed

National Football Team Coach Ricky Herbert has been dismissed from his position.

Assistant Coach Ismail Mahfooz (Inma) has been appointed as his replacement.

The New Zealand national was dismissed after poor performance since his appointment to the position last September. His contract was initially penned for a two year term.

His dismissal is yet to be confirmed by FAM. However, the team had departed to Qatar for the Asian Cup qualifier against Yemen without the coach.

At the time of his dismissal, disputes between Herbert and the rest of the officials, such as former Assistant Coach Assad Abdul Ghanee and Goal Keeper Trainer Aslam Abdu Raheem. The latter two had resigned over the disputes with the coach.

During his 10 months as coach, the National Team had contested in three tournament, with the team bowing out of the tournaments at the semi stage. However, many young new players had made their debuts during this term.
