Opposition MDP has alleged that Maldives Police Service had prioritized on halting the MDP organized maahefun while at the same time two teenagers were senselessly murdered on the streets of Male'.
A statement released condemning the halting of the maahefun, MDP said over 50 officers from the Police were active in dismantling the MDP event. At the same time, the statement said, two minors were murdered on the streets.
"Instead of preventing the crime, Police officers and Police resources were prioritized to halt the maahefun,"
The statement denied the Police allegations that MDP had held the maahefun illegally. MDP said they had requested for the closure of road in front of MDP Office in Sosun Magu from Housing Ministry. The statement added that they had sent copies of the letter with Police, Elections Commission and Human Rights Commission of the Maldives on May 29.
