Participants of Democracy Week, which was held in Hoarafushi last February by the Elections Commission have been awarded with certificates.
The Elections Commission held the awards ceremony last night in Stelco. Participants of Democracy Week received their certificates from the Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham. Many government institutions took part in Democracy Week. Democracy week was held to familiarise the concept and values of Democracy within civil servants and government institutions.
Speaking at last night's ceremony, PG Bisham said that it was crucial to establish a stable democratic environment to achieve development at a national level. Bisham also said that people and institutions alike should be made aware of democracy and the ideology behind it, in order to establish a stable Democracy in the Maldives. PG Bisham praised the Election Commission's work in conducting Democracy week activities.
" A stable democracy cannot be established until the public is made aware of what Democracy really is. This includes educating the public about elections and answering the public's doubts about different elections. This is what is needed to establish a stable democracy here".
Elections Commission of Maldives have said that they are planning on conducting Democracy in a Southern Atoll next year.
