Elections Commission (EC) has scheduled a meeting for June 28th, to hold discussions regarding e-voting with political parties.
Opposition MDP had strongly criticized the Government's initiative to introduce e-voting, stating that this will hamper the electoral system and increase lack of faith in the electoral system.
EC Member Ahmed Akram said the Commission will conduct the next local council elections through the e-voting system and will hold additional meetings with political parties over the issue. He said invitations to the parties had been dispatched last Thursday and had requested the parties to send the names of their representatives before June 27.
Even though EC will introduce e-voting in the January local council elections, the system will not be released to the whole country at first.
