Judges who give unjust verdicts will be rewarded similarly: Humam

Hussain Humam, sentenced under the death penalty, has criticized the judicial system, stating that all Judges who deliver unjust verdicts will be rewarded in the same manner. Hussain Humaam is the key suspect in the murder of the late Parliamentarian Dr. Afrasheem Ali.

In the matter of State vs. Hussain Humaam, Humam was given the death sentence in Criminal Court on January 16, 2014. When the appeal was filed in High Court, the Court supported the lower Court's sentence. That hearing was held on September 7 last year

The case was filed by the State in Supreme Court, to determine if the verdict issued by Criminal Court and supported by High Court were valid. In today's hearing Humam was granted the last opportunity to speak, which he used to direct comments on the Judges.

Humam said the Prophet had decreed that unjust verdicts issued by Judges against Islamic Shariah will be reviewed by God and the unjust will be punished accordingly.

He said that he had carefully reviewed what Islamic shariah had to say on crimes, especially the works of Sheikh Albany. Humam said that in Islamic Shariah, a crime can only be proven if two individuals attest that they had seen the crime occur and if the criminal confessed to it by swearing on the Quran.

Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed had refrained from responding to Humam and had concluded the hearings after Humam had spoken.

Two hearings of the case were carried out this week. In today's hearing, the court had announced that the hearings of the case and that in the next hearing the verdict will be passed. If the appeal fails to fall through, the death penalty will be implemented. The Government had said the death penalty will be implemented within 30 days of Supreme Court decision.
