Parliament Committee on Economic Affairs has passed to pass the amendment to the Tourism Act and to fix US$ 4 as green tax.
The amendment initially put forward US$ 6 per guest. However, the Committee accepted concerns raised by local guesthouse operators and reviewed the issue with Tourism Ministry officials and reduced the fees.
Four PPM members of the Committee had voted to pass the motion. If the bill passes as it is, then green taxes will be taken from guesthouses from October 1.
Currently green taxes are not taken from guesthouses.
