Umar expresses interest in contesting PPM primary

Former Home Minister Umar Naseer has expressed interest in contesting in the PPM primary for Presidential elections 2018 and has sent the relevant documentation to that effect. He had earlier today announced that he will be contesting in the 2018 elections.

The Party is yet to reach a decision on holding the primaries. Umar had uploaded the letter of interest to his official twitter account.

The letter stated that he wished to contest in the PPM primaries for the 2018 elections pursuant to clause 68, subsection (h) of the Party laws.

The Party laws clearly dictates three principles under which a candidate can contest for the Party ticket. The laws state that a primary will be held among all party members three to six months before the Presidential elections.

The laws also state that an elected President will be automatically eligible for the Party ticket if he chooses to run for a second term. The third principle says that in the event multiple candidates expressed interest in the Party ticket, the Party congress will decide if a primary will be held.
