4.9 hectares of land in Male' Industrial Village has been reclaimed within three days. The project was initiated to adequately address the issues of waste and congestion in capital Male'. The reclamation began on Thursday and was successfully concluded last night.
The Industrial Village is one of the core projects initiate by Housing Ministry and is scheduled to be completed by the 26th of this month. The total area of the Village is 6.9 hectares.
Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizz today said the road construction will begin now that the Industrial Village has been reclaimed. He said though the Village has been fully reclaimed, the land needed to be leveled and the entry way needed to be constructed.
"We want to conclude the main work of the village by July 26. We want to complete the road works in a month's time," he said.
Minister said the seawall of the Village will be higher than normal and that tetrapods and boulders will be used as well.
Once fully completed, all workshops using chemicals, warehouses, godowns and waste management systems for Male' city will be shifted to the Village.
The Village is a MVR 159 million project. Housing Ministry said that the Ministry will be able to recover the investment in a period of four years, by leasing the area.
