MDP social media team member Shamoon Jaleel, Lucas Jaleel, was arrested last night on charges of spreading hate speech in public against Police.
Police Media Official reported that he was arrested under a court order at around 2200 hrs last night. The official said that Lucas was arrested for spreading hate speech against Police and MNDF.
An MDP activist, Lucas has been a vocal opponent of the Government, Police and MNDF, taking to social media to express his sentiments.
The Police had begun strict review of any action or statement that promotes hate against independent institutions and security forces. Recently, Kendhoo Constituency MP Ali Hussain was summoned to Police, after he had posted that any member of public can defend himself if approached by Police. Adhaalath Party Scholar's Council's Vice President Dr. Mohamed Iyaz was also summoned to Police over a case submitted by the Judiciary.
