Ibu summoned over Corrections letter to Nasheed

MDP PG Leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) has revealed that he was summoned to Police last night over the letter issued by Maldives Correctional Service to former President Mohamed Nasheed. Nasheed's family had stated that the letter had authorized Nasheed to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest.

MDP submitted the case to Police a year ago. While MDP and Nasheed' family had maintained the letter was authentic, the Government had said the letter was a trumped up one. The Party had sent the letter abroad to verify the authenticity of the letter.

Ibu said that he was summoned to Police for questioning as previous investigations and witness statements had mentioned his name in their testimonies. He said he was summoned to clarify on the whole timeline of the case. Ibu added that former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb had also given a statement on the case, but did not reveal additional details on the issue.

Ibu added that President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom had also been listed as a person of interest but Police is yet to interrogate him.

Nasheed was transferred to house arrest while the initial round of All Party Talks were going on between the Government and MDP. Ibu was part of MDP delegations in the talks. That round of talks had failed to reach a compromise on the matter.
