The Commonwealth envoy to the Maldives Dr. Willy Mutunga has departed after concluding his five-day visit to the country.
The recently retired Supreme Court Justice of Kenya, Dr. Mutunga was appointed to the position on the request of the Government. In his capacity as the Commonwealth envoy, Dr. Mutunga had attempted to start the stalled political dialogue. However, the talks failed to materialize during the five-day period.
During his five-day stay, Dr. Mutunga had met opposition figures and President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom. Foreign Ministry had not released additional details regarding the visit.
