Elections Commission (EC) has stated the Commission will begin removing Party members without fingerprint identification on October 11. The change was mandated following the ratification of the second amendment to the Political Party Act.
The amendment requires all party members to submit finger print identification with their membership form and other supporting documents. Any members who do not conform to the membership requirements set forth in the Act within one month of the publication of this Act will no longer be a party member. The Act also outlines that state funds can only be granted to parties which confirm to the provisions within the act.
The law mandates all Parties have to submit fingerprint identification within a month's time from ratification. EC said said the Commission will notify all the Parties and will send a list of members without fingerprint identification.
The Commission will compile the Party registers after the deadline.
Some parties had resubmitted forms with fingerprint identification prior to the amendment.
