Coffee chat as evidence against Adeeb

An anonymous witness today in Court testified that Ishaq Hussain of G. Oivaali had disbursed cash on orders of former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb. In his testimony the witness testified that he had heard this in a chat over coffee.

Adeeb, Ishaq, Fazeel Hameed of M. Lily Park and alleged Sri Lankan sniper Lahiru Madhushankar have been charged with planning an assassination attempt on the President.

Two out of the five witnesses had given their testimonies in today's hearing. The first witness testified today that he had overheard Fazeel say that "this could have been over if done in one shot" one day after the explosion aboard the Presidential speedboat. The witness said that Fazeel was in the company four other individuals and that he was not aware of anything else.

The second witness testified that he was a close friend and confidant of Ishaq, adding that Ishaq had confessed to disbursing cash on Adeeb's orders. But the witness said he was unaware of how much was distributed or to who the cash was distributed. The witnessed also said that Ishaq did not reveal why the cash was distributed.

The witness said Fazeel, one of the co-respondents of the case, was the recipient of US$ 20,000, which he said he overheard while Ishaq and five of his friends were in a restaurant. He said he did not know why the cash was given and that he did not know who the five were.

He added that he did not see Fazeel hand over cash or Adeeb hand over cash to Fazeel either.

In the next hearing, the remaining three witnesses will give their testimonies.

Fazeel and Adeeb are charged with planning to assassinate President Abdullah Yameen and bringing in a sniper
to carry out the assassination. Madhushankar is charged as an accomplice to the attempt. The three have been charged under clause numbers 110 (a), 82 (a) and 86 (a).
