If CMAG implements measures, then it will be another coup: Moosa

Parliament Deputy Speaker Reeko Moosa Manik has stated that if the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) were to implement action against Maldives, then it will become another coup.

Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) had compiled a report, which had been forwarded to CMAG, recommending serious action against the Maldives on various issues.

Speaking in Channel 13's News Talk program last night, Moosa said the nation was bigger than a small group of individuals and there were state secrets that need to be held within the nation. He added that it was unacceptable that this group will seek personal enrichment at the expense of national interests.

"If CMAG implements action against Maldives today, its a coup... If they talk about or implement measures against Maldives, then its shameful," Moosa said.

In his interview, Moosa leveled severe criticism on former President Mohamed Nasheed. He said the former President was disrespectful of the state institutions, Constitutions, judicial system or the legislature.

The Parliamentarian for Hulhuhenveyru Constituency had begun a reform agenda aimed at bringing opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) back to its democratic roots. Moosa, who had served as Chair of the Party, had partnered up with Alhan Fahmy, former Leader of MDP, and former LGA member Shujau Hussain.

The trio had claimed that the Party had been hijacked by a group for their own interests, at the expense of internal democracy in the Party. Moosa had stressed that a strong leadership for the Party was vital at this time. They say that MDP had been severely damaged by the illegal amalgamation to the Maldives United Opposition.
