Saudi showing strong leadership role for Islamic community: Maseeh

Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Maseeh says that Saudi Arabia had shown a strong leadership role for the entire Islamic community. He made the statement speaking in the ceremony held in Kurumba Maldives to mark the 86th National Day of Saudi Arabia.

In addition to Maseeh, Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar, Islamic Minister Dr. Ahmed Ziyad Baqir, Gender Minister Aminath Zeneesha and Chancellor of Maldives Islamic University Dr. Mohamed Shaheem participated in the function. Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Akhilesh Mishra, Ambassador of People's Republic of China to the Maldives Wang Fukang, senior Government officials attended as well.

In his opening remarks, Maseeh said Saudi Arabia had achieved many accomplishments over the years, adding the country was gearing towards more milestones.

Maseeh noted that Saudi Arabia had demonstrated a strong leadership role, praising the work carried out by King Salman bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud. Speaker Maseeh also reflected on the close relationship established between Maldives and Saudi Arabia over the past few years and said that this was a very special relationship.

He also remarked on the work carried out by the Saudi Ambassador to the Maldives Badr Ali Ahmed Al-Kahail. Maseeh said that he was a hard working youth.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom had sent a message of felicitation ‎to the King of Saudi Arabia on the occasion of the country’s National Day.

“As Saudi Arabia celebrates its National Day, it gives me great pleasure to extend on behalf of the Government and the people of the Maldives, warmest congratulations to Your Majesty, along with my best wishes for good health and happiness. I also wish the fraternal people of Saudi Arabia further progress and prosperity under Your Majesty’s wise leadership,” the message read.
