Govt. to create five more regional airports

Finance Minister Ahmed Munawwar has stated the Government was targeting to create five regional airports in the next three years.

In his opening remark at the Guesthouse Conference, Finance Minister said the biggest challenge to guesthouse and tourism sectors was the issue of transportation and the huge cost associated with transportation. He said the Government's plan was to create a larger transportation network with more regional airports.

"President Abdullah Yameen pledged to create more airports in various parts of the country, its an important goal for the aviation sector. The government aims to open over five regional airports in the coming two, three years," he said.

Nine regional airports are currently operational into the country. Airports in Addu, Hanimaadhoo and Ibrahim Nasir International Airport are international ones.
