MDP to deliberate on representatives for discussions tonight

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has said the Party's national council will deliberate on representatives for the All Party Talks tonight.

MDP made the statement in response to the letters sent by the Government to MDP and Adhaalath Party, requesting for representative for the All Party Talks. Speaking to Avas, MDP Secretary General Anas Abdul Sattaar said the council will convene to deliberate on the issue tonight at 9 pm.

The Government had extended invitation to the opposition parties to participate in the talks. However, MDP had refused to participate in the talks, stipulating the release of jailed political figures as a condition. Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) had issued a statement calling for all parties to restart the talks, without any conditions.

Fisheries Minister Dr. Mohamed Shainee, the lead negotiator for the Government, said the Government was ready to start the discussions.
