Elections Commission to determine legitimate PPM council

Elections Commission (EC) has announced that they will hold discussions to determine which faction of PPM has held the legitimate council meeting.

EC made the announcement after both factions within PPM held council meetings and shared their decisions with the commission. Member of Elections Commission Ahmed Akram said in answer to a question by "Avas" that they have received decisions from the council meetings held by both factions of PPM, but that the commission has not had any discussions and that they have not yet come to a conclusion regarding this matter.

He also said that a decision will only be reached after a discussion is held in a meeting with members of the commission.

"We will add the PPM dispute to our agenda and we will hold discussions about it. Elections Commission will move forward after investigating this matter thoroughly in a lawful way," Akram said.

After the council meeting overlooked by President Abdulla Yameen was held after the verdict by the civil court, the council shared the names of those the council had selected to be the secretary general and deputy secretary general with the EC.

The Maumoon faction have also elected a new SG, as well as two new members of the council and they have shared their decisions with the commission as well. They also informed the commission that the vice president of party, Abdul Raheem Abdulla and Zahid Raheem were removed from the council. The letter sent by PPM to the EC also states that the council meeting held under President Yameen was not a legitimate one.

But the verdict reached by the Civil Court states that former president Maumoon was unable to hold council meetings, and that to protect the members of the party, a council meeting must be held within 24 hours of the verdict overlooked by the Chief Adviser of the party.
