Broadcom denies Media Net request on HD channel pricing

The Broadcasting Commission has decided that the riding fee on SD and HD will be the same for rebroadcasting networks for Maldivian Broadcasters.

The Commission stated today that they decided on the prices, regarding the request by Media Net to increase the riding fee on HD channels, after discussing with all the companies who hold a rebroadcasting licence.

The Commission said that all the parties who were involved in the discussions noted that the HD format in now a basic standard in the television service, and that every side agreed that due to the changes in the television service all over the world and the expansion of the broadcasting service in the Maldives means that the HD format must be the standard in the Maldives as well.

The Commission said that after considering these facts, they decided not to change the price between SD and HD formats. This decision means that the riding fee for Broadcasters channels on the Media Network will remain the same as 2014 at the rate of MVR 4 per channel.

Media Nets reported request was to increase every connection to MVR 10.
