The parliament has voted today for the Maldives to depart from the Commonwealth. 39 members voted for this resolution.

While looking at the details of the vote taken today, the resolution was passed with 39 of the total 58 members voting for it.18 members voted against leaving the Commonwealth. 3 members remained neutral on the vote. The issue of whether Maldives should remain on the Commonwealth was put to the parliament and discussed on the floor, where it was sent to the National Security Committee. The Committee decided remaining as a member of the Commonwealth would see the unfair treatment of Maldives continue, and see the continued interference in the internal policies and national freedom of Maldives. Opposition members heavily disagreed with this decision.
