300 complaints to voters list, dead people also included

  • Many complaints regarding wrong addresses
  • Complaints will be fixed and a new list will be compiled this week
  • 5 days will be given to submit complaints against new list

Elections Commission (EC) has revealed that they have received 300 complaints, including the registration of dead people, regarding the voters list for the upcoming Local Council Election.

While talking to "Avas" member of Elections Commission Ahmed Akram said that while the chance to complain about the list closed last week, they have received around 300 complains so far and that most complaints were the same as previous times, regarding dead people being registered and the addresses being listed wrong.

"Even if there are complaints, all the problems cant be solved. And this times 300 is a small amount of complaints compared to previous times," Akram said.

Akram also said that they are looking into the complaints and that a new list will be put to gazette this week. And if there are complaints in the new list as well, EC will give a 5 day time period for new complaints.

At the elections that will be held on January 14th of next year, 563 Island Councillors will be elected to 179 Island Councils, 67 Atoll Councilors will be elected to 18 Atoll Councils and 23 City Councillors will be elected to 3 City Councils. EC will open submissions for those positions on the 26th of this month.
