Baby who died in state care buried after postmortem

The five month old baby who died under suspicious circumstances while under state care has been buried after postmortem.

Police said the baby was brought back after the postmortem and buried on Thursday.

The baby had been rushed to the hospital in the reclaimed suburb Hulhumale due to a breathing difficulty and was pronounced dead shortly after.

Police had said the circumstances surrounding the baby's death was 'suspicious' which prompted the postmortem.

Gender ministry had constituted a special inter agency committee to probe the death and had vowed strict action if negligence is found.

The special shelter for children under the age of nine funded by a private UAE businessman was opened last year and currently houses around 85 children.
