Maldives showcases gun that foiled 1988 coup

Corporal Hussain Adam of Hd. Kulhudhuffushi is a name who will never be forgotten from Maldivian history. His sacrifice in the service of this country will never be forgotten. His sacrifice 28 years ago aged just 20 years is a sacrifice forever etched in history.

Maldives commemorates 28 years since the attack on Maldivian shores which saw the loss of Hussain Adam and other brave soldiers who bravely defended this country. The gun used by Hussain Adam in the defense of the country has been showcased Thursday.

The most noteworthy response to the attack of the Sri Lankan People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) on November 3rd of 1988 was the response given by Hussain Adam. Hussain Adam has used an AK 47 Rifle to answer the attacks of the enemy. He had been using his gun to return fire on the enemy until his last breath, and enemy fire had landed on his weapon as well.

The gun was showcased during the parade held Thursday to commemorate the 28th year since the attack. The gun, which is under the watchful care of the Military, was showcased today in a special box. There was a special showing of the gun to the media. This is the first time the gun used by the Maldivian hero was ever shown.

Hussain Adam's fight against the enemy

On the first attack of the enemies on Novemer 3 1988, Hussain Adam fired his weapon in return at the sound of fire. He was standing guard at the main gate of the military headquarters. His attack's stunned the enemy and bought enough time for the soldiers inside the base to take up defensive positions. After a long battle with the enemy, he ran out of ammunition. He faced the enemies to his last breath, requesting for more ammunition. The enemies attacks penetrated his chest, and he gave his life defending the walls of the headquarters, bravely defending his fellow soldiers. He became a hero who sacrificed himself in defense of this country, etching his name in Maldivian history.
