A young Maldivian woman and her child has been held 'captive' in Bangladesh by her husband.
Police confirmed that the case had been reported a few days ago and said the gender ministry had also been notified.
But the investigation was still ongoing, police refused to divulge any details.
According to sources, the young woman had fled to Bangladesh without the knowledge of her family to be with her lover who is reportedly the father of the child.
Reports say the woman has since married the Bangladeshi national.
The man had reportedly held the woman and the child 'captive' after she tried to return to the Maldives with help of her family.
The two had met while the man was working in Maldives but was later deported on a drugs charge.
