A man suffered a skull fracture after being assaulted Saturday in Maafannu ward in the capital Male.
Police confirmed the incident and said an investigation was underway, but denied any arrests.
The police did not divulge much details into whether the attack was gang related.
After a spate of gang related assaults in June, the Maldives capital has experienced months of relative calm before Saturday's incident.
