The Criminal Court has extended the remand of four suspects accused of threatening and assaulting a Male’ homeowner.
The case transpired around the beginning of Ramadan. The arrested individuals deny harming the homeowner, and claims to have entered the property to clean the apartment.
Those arrested in the case are Ali Nawaf (21), Mohamed Azaan (23), Ibrahim Ahnaf (21) and Mohamed Aflah (23). While they were initially remanded into custody for 15 days, the period has now been extended by an additional 15 days.
Video footage of the assault has been circulating on various social media platforms. The video shows the homeowner’s mouth taped shut, and one of the suspects restraining him while a second suspect presses a lit cigarette against his skin. Another individual attempts to hit him with a large stapler.
The group's arrest warrant report quoted them as saying they were hired to clean the property by a friend who rented it. They maintained that they did not cause any damage.
