Gabbarey turns himself in to the police

The suspect sought on charges of attempting to assassinate on Mathiveri MP Hassan Zareer, Ibrahim Abdullah, 32, has surrendered to the police.

Authorities confirmed that Abdulla, commonly known as Gabbarey, turned himself in on Tuesday morning. The Criminal Court has remanded him into custody for 30 days.

A case of assault against MP Zareer with what could be considered a dangerous weapon was reported to police at 5:08 am on May 1. The police announced the search for Gabbarey on the 15th of this month without disclosing his connection to the attack on MP Zareer. However, the police website published Gabbarey's photo and name and said he was wanted on charges of a group assault with sharp and dangerous weapons and attempted murder.

The police had earlier arrested two individuals in relation to the attack. The men, aged 21 and 22, were arrested on May 11 under a court order. Police have not yet released the identities of the suspects.
