Criminal Court acquits Indian man accused of stabbing wife

The Criminal Court today acquitted a man that allegedly stabbed his wife.

An Indian national, Srinivasan Subramani, who resided on the second floor of M. Rihividhuvaruge with his wife, was arrested for stabbing his spouse on February 2, 2022. The prosecution charged Srinivasan with assault using a sharp object under the Penal Code. Srinivasan's wife had earlier given a statement that she was stabbed by her husband. When produced in court earlier to decide on his remand, he had confessed to stabbing his wife.

However, his wife later retracted her statement and told the court that she was injured by a knife when she fell asleep in her living room, where she was chopping vegetables. She said she gave her previous statement because she was threatened with deportation.
