Police Sunday arrested the driver of the trike that crushed a three year old in Kaaf Atoll Huraa island on Friday.
The boy suffered a ruptured liver and remains in critical condition. Authorities have now sent three year old Mohamed Naal Niyaz to neighbouring India for further treatment.
Sources say the boy had also suffered major trauma to his lungs.
Police said the 50 year old driver had been arrested for the investigation and the court had extended his remand for 10 days.
Huraa council president Easa Ahmed had told Avas that the trike had dropped off some kids and Naal had reportedly suddenly grabbed the vehicle.
Naal had been crushed under the front wheel as the driver failed to see the boy, Easa explained.
