Police Monday arrested several young men in connection to the assault on a busy street in the capital Male the day before.
The assault that took place near Ibrahim Mosque on Sunday night saw two people wounded. A team of police SWAT officers entered Central Park restaurant and arrested 20 people over the assault, according to unofficial sources.
The police said an operation had been launched to restore safety to the streets of Male.
Witnesses on the scene of the crime report that two men riding a motorbike were assaulted by a group of people with blunt as well as sharp objects.
Both the victims and the perpetrators of the crime had escaped the scene before the arrival of the police.
