The Islamic Ministry has announced that the registered underprivileged people will receive MVR 11 million this year as part of Zakat, an amount that is equal to MVR 900 per head.
In a statement released by the Islamic Ministry today, the Ministry informed that Zakat will be given out by the amount collected by the end of the Islamic year. The Islamic Ministry informs that Zakat will be distributed between 09:30 to 16:00 from the 21st to 24th of November.
There are 12,335 registered underprivileged people in the Maldives. Of this amount, 2399 are living in the Male' area, with the other 9936 people living in atolls.
The Islamic Ministry states that they will be in charge of distributing Zakat in the Male' area. They inform that 10 counters will be opened in the hall of the Islamic Ministry for this purpose, and that the island councils will be in charge of distribution within the islands.
