Final appeal for Shifan murder convict

Mohamed Shaifan, on death row over the murder Ma. Fairy Corner, Ali Shifan has filed for final appeal of his sentence after the High Court had upheld his death sentence in May.

The Prosecutor General's office had initially charged six individuals with first degree murder over the stabbing murder of Shifan in April 2012.

However the Criminal court ruled acquited all six citing lack of evidence prompting prosecutors to appeal the case of three of the six individuals charged with Shifan's murder.

The High Court had ruled that the evidence presented in court was sufficient in proving that Shaifan was guilty of murdering Ali Shifaan but again acquitted the remaining two.

Supreme Court had accepted the appeal and has scheduled the first hearing on November 22.
