Football Association of Maldives (FAM) on Sunday elected former general secretary Bassam Adeel Jaleel as its new chief in protracted crisis that has football's local governing body dogged by controversy for the past two years.
Bassam contested against former FAM chief Ahmed Thoriq and secured the election with 14 votes to 11.
Thoriq was elected as the FAM president earlier this year but the mass resignation of five executive members had forced a new election.
The resignations came a day after the then general secretary Bassam was sacked by the former Maldives national team forward Thoriq.
