Man acquitted of step-grandfather's murder

The step grandson of the 76 year-old Ali Hassan ‘Ayyube’ charged with accessory to murder was acquitted on Monday.

Hassan's body was discovered with multiple stab wounds in an abandoned house on Kudahuvadhoo on January 8, 2013. His step grandson Ibrahim Waseem had allegedly aided the killers to hide the multiple murder weapons and dispose the body.

However, the court had ruled that the evidence was not sufficient to prove the charges against Waseem.

In addition to Waseem, four others including three minors were charged with Ayyube's murder.

However, only two minors had been found guilty by the juvenile court while the rest were acquitted.
