'Govt to achieve 75% of youth agenda next year'

Youth Minister Iruthisham Adam has said that by the middle of next year, 75% of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's youth manifesto would be achieved.

Speaking at the Youth Award Ceremony held Wednesday night at Dharubaaruge, the Minister said that youth become a topic after the current government came into power. She said President Yameen increased the previous budget of MVR 30 million threefold, and that a budget of around MVR 300 million was spent annually for the past three years.

She also said that building the 'Youth City' was going at rocket speed, with housing and sports facilities being developed such as a world class football stadium with the help of Qatar, and an international sports academy.

"All around the Maldives, we are witnessing the chart drawn by President Yameen coming to life. We are seeing projects in every island move forward at the speed of a gazelle. We will achieve 75% of the youth agenda by the middle of next year," the Minister said.

The Minister said that 53 futsal pitches have been built in the past three years, and that work is coming along on 84 more fields, and that the cost has reached MVR 75.5 million for these projects along with the development of pre existing football stadiums and futsal fields.

The Minister also noted that different programs are being conducted by 44 different youth centers, and that MVR 78 million has been spent for these programs and for sending Maldivian youth abroad take part in international tournaments.

She said that the youth were achieving success due to the efforts of the government and other government related institutions. She informed that 56 courses had been conducted for free in the sports field. The Minister said that there were 928 participants in these courses and that over MVR 4 million was spent on these projects.
