Maldives' main hospital unveils new automated lab system

  • New lab tests available
  • MVR35 million spent to automate
  • Major upgrades to IGMH

A total laboratory automation system has been established in the government owned Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), and the results of the tests conducted in the laboratory will now be available within just two hours. The new upgrades also include new tests which were not previously available.

The new features were introduced Sunday at a ceremony held in the hospital by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. IGMH said the new upgrades entail new tests which were not previously available, and that excluding a few tests, a sample report of every other test will be available within two hours of the test being conducted.

The hospital also said the new laboratory automation system was in line with plans to establish a National Diagnostic Center. The state-owned hospital further said stated that even though the new features were launched Sunday night, the entire system would not be fully functional until the diagnostic center is operational.

A sum of MVR 35 million was spent on establishing the laboratory automation system in IGMH.

A new logo has also been revealed for IGMH along with all the new features.
