An elderly woman drowned early Monday in Haa Alif Atoll Dhidhdhoo island.
The island council said 55 year old Naseema Abdulla drowned while out swimming with friends around 6.30 Monday morning.
Council said the victim was a frequent swimmer but had gone out on Monday after a long break.
"She frequently goes swimming with friends. Mostly for exercise," council member Ismail Naseer told Avas.
Naseer said the victim had died after she was rushed to the island health centre.
"After completing all the formalities, we're now trying to bury her," Naseer added.
Naseema leaves behind a child and three grandchildren.
