President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom Sunday urged all government institutions to not present awards which may resemble, in name, the National Award of Honour or the Special Achievement Award.

President's Office in a statement discouraged the recent practice by several government institutions of giving out awards resembling the titles.

"President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom stated that such actions create less respect for the honourees of the National Award of Honour and Special Achievement Award," the statement said.

Each year the government confers National Awards of Honour and Special Achievement awards celebrating individuals and institutions who work for the greater benefit of the country; recognizing individuals, associations, businesses, service providers at a national level.
