Hulhumale port to share clearance service

Goods headed to the Atolls would now be cleared by the port in the reclaimed suburb Hulhumale, Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) chief announced Monday.

Speaking during a ceremony to unveil the new vehicles and equipment brought in worth USD9.1 million, MPL CEO Mohamed Junaid said proving clearance service from only the main port in the capital Male had proved a great challenge to the company.

"The greatest ease in activating the Hulhumale port would be that we would now be able to provide round the clock service. Now we can clear cargo headed to the Atolls and resorts 24/7. That it would in turn ease the burden on the Male port," Junaid explained.

Junaid also said the government has approved plans to expand the port in the capital.
