A special ceremony is set to be held next Friday, with an initiative by the First Lady, Madam Fathimath Ibrahim to officially start the re-election campaign for her spouse President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Speaking to 'Avas' on behalf of the First Lady's campaign office, spokesperson to the President Office Ibrahim Muaz Ali said that the First Lady had been conducting campaign activities unofficially in the past. Muaz said that the rally which will be held on Friday, dubbed 'Feshun' (Start) will officially kick off the campaign.
Muaz said the First Lady's efforts does not reflect the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) officially starting President Yameen's campaign.
He said that the activities organised through this campaign will be directly carried out by the First Lady's office, saying that the PPM campaign will be carried out directly by PPM.
"We had carried campaign activities such as training volunteers in the past. We are launching the official campaign to kick our activities up a gear, and we are officially launching the event in Hulhumale'. This is a new light which will shine on this event," Muaz said.
Muaz further said that this campaign is being launched from Hulhumale' due to it's large population as well as it's potential for the future.
