In conjunction with the Maldives Blood Services, Maldives Ports Limited has started a campaign for its employees to donate blood. The CEO of MPL Mohamed Junaid donated blood to kick-start the drive.
Speaking at the ceremony held to start the campaign CEO Junaid said that may efforts are undertaken to increase the involvement of MPL employees in activities which would benefit the members of the public. Junaid said that MPL employees were only viewed as 'dock workers' and vowed to see that change.
"Critics are saying that we are selling jugos (type of drink) or short eats. What I want to say is that we will sell jugos if we want, or serve the public in any way we can," Junaid said.
So far, 70 employees have signed up for the campaign to donate blood, and MPL expects many more to sign up before the drive ends later Thursday.
