The construction has been completed on 102 housing units built by the government in Gaaf Dhaal and Gaaf Alif and initiating efforts to handover the flats.
Housing Ministry said that the 52 apartments built in Gaaf Alif Atoll Vilingili island and the 50 built in Gaaf Dhaal Atoll Gahdhoo island were all divided into three categories.
The government has decided to give a certain percentage of housing units in islands away to residents, while dedicating a certain amount for those who choose to migrate to the island and sell of the remaining units.
Villingili council said 80 forms had been submitted requesting flats, while 87 are seeking housing units in Gahdhoo.
Gahdhoo Council said 40 of the housing units would be dedicated to islanders, while file will be sold and the remaining units will be given out to immigrants to the island.
Both councils revealed that recipients of the housing units would be announced after an evaluation.
The government has launched major social housing schemes throughout the archipelago with 600 new units budgeted for this year.
