Expat found dead in Maldives capital

An expatriate worker was found dead in the capital Male on Tuesday evening.

Initial reports indicate that the man found dead in a house in Sosun Magu was a 21 year old Sri Lankan expatriate worker. Police said the death appears to be a suicide.

The latest report comes just hours after a 51 year old woman was found dead in Male.

Police said the woman was found in Gnamgnam house in Maafannu ward around 9.30am Tuesday after she failed to emerge from her room this morning.

Details remain sketchy but the incident comes less than a month after a couple were found dead in their bedroom in capital Male.

Gasim Shahid 50, and his wife Razeena Ibrahim 40, were found dead in their bedroom of the fifth floor apartment in Light Signal house in Maafannu ward in capital Male earlier this month.

Police said their body samples would be sent abroad after the tests done locally had not revealed anything unusual.

Police had expressed desire to conduct a postmortem. But the eldest child had reportedly turned down the request as his parents death points towards natural causes.

The couple were buried in the same grave, rarely allowed in the Maldives.
